Specialist position. Responsibilities include solving user software

Job Summary
This position is responsible for maximizing the effectiveness of the
companys information systems through proactive customer support and
training. The scope of this position includes responsibility for
answering user questions, solving user software and hardware
problems, maintaining the effectiveness of user hardware and
application software, identifying training needs, and conducting
internal training classes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essentials/Routine
Hardware
Installs and maintains PCs, laptops, audio/visual, and other
related hardware.
Establishes and maintains an effective system of desktop hard
drive backups.
Coordinates maintenance of land line phone systems.
Installs and maintains cell phone/blackberry communication
systems.
Investigates hardware problems and performs minor system
hardware and communication connection repairs.
Performs basic diagnostic testing and monitors performance
daily. Major problems or repairs are directed to outside
vendors.
Assists with the coordination and installation of servers with
outside vendors.
Recommends to management hardware strategies that result in the
improved effectiveness and efficiency of information systems
while containing costs.
Software
Installs and maintains software for servers, PCs, laptops,
audio/visual, and other related hardware.
Installs and maintains application software on company desktops
and travelling laptops.
Installs upgrades to application software on desktops and
laptops as required.
Network
Coordinates the establishment and maintenance of user network
and e-mail accounts, ensuring security guidelines for
appropriate access based on job function/need is followed.
Help Desk
Responds to inquiries and requests for assistance with the
organization's computer systems, network, PC's, cell phones,
audio/visual equipment, and other peripherals.
Identifies problems, troubleshoots and provides advice to
assist users in a timely and customer service oriented manner.
Ensures continued communication/feedback with customers as to
the queue or waiting period.
Maintains a Help Desk log and provides quarterly analysis of
hardware/software issues.
Inventory
Establishes and maintains a computer supply purchasing and
inventory system, including effective purchase and inventory
records.
Maintains an ongoing check-out system for laptops, audio/visual
equipment and other peripherals.
Recommends to management purchasing strategies that result in
the acquisition of quality products and maintenance of adequate
inventories at the best possible cost.
Training
Proactively identifies training needs for associates
Identifies and qualifies third party training providers.
Establishes individual training plans for associates on a
co-authored basis with associates or their supervisors where
applicable.
Establishes group training plans to maximize the effectiveness
of application software and hardware.
Conducts training classes on a regular basis, based upon the
development of course objectives, outlines and classroom
materials as required
Recommends to management training strategies that provide users
with the knowledge to maximize their access to information and
problem solving tools
Other
Effectively collaborates with IT team in identifying and
meeting customer needs.
Maintains a presence amongst the user community by
periodically touching base with users to assess needs.

Qualifications
Essentials/Routine
Thorough understanding of computer technology and application
software
Thorough understanding of networking, database, and
communication systems
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external
customers
Effective presentation skills to assist internal customers in
problem solving
Effective skills in training, needs assessment, and course
development
College-level studies in computer science and/or certification
a plus
Minimum 2 years experience in a PC-based network environment
Minimum 2 years experience with database establishment and
maintenance
Ability to analyze challenges and recommend effective solutions
Ability to utilize MS Word, Excel at an advanced level
Complete assigned projects within established timelines and
guidelines
